AGBU Lebanon executive director Anita Lebiar and programs coordinator Arine Ghazarian attended a panel/discussion entitled The Lebanon Climate Act organized by the GreenMind NGO, held on Monday, July 10, 2017 at the University of Saint Joseph, Beirut.
The Lebanon Climate Act is a program organized by Green Mind NGO in partnership with the United Nations Development Program in Lebanon and Banque Du Liban, and in cooperation with the European Union ClimaSouth Project team and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Lebanon. The Lebanon Climate Act aims at creating economic growth in a way that also creates value for the society by addressing Climate Change challenges.
Of the power speakers who joined the panel were H.E. Riad Salameh, Governor of Banque du Liban; Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance; Christina Lassen EU Ambassador, Head of the EU Delegation to Lebanon; Philippe Lazzarini, UNDP Resident Representative; Mohamed Choucair, Chairman of the Federation of the Lebanese Chambers and Nada Zaarour, President of Green Mind NGO.
A guidebook “ From Climate Change How to Create Value” was launched during the ceremony (https://www.lebanonclimateact.com/guidebook).
During the event, the first group of the pilot member companies of the Lebanon Climate Act, the 2017 Climate Change Champions from the different private sectors, among which was Banque Audi, were awarded for participating in the Lebanon Climate Act’s Business Knowledge Platform training sessions, and emerging with concrete, achievable, and effective climate action plans, thus demonstrating positive climate change leadership.
On this occasion, the AGBU Lebanon would like to congratulate Banque Audi and particularly its member Hasmig Dantsiguian El Khoury, the head of CSR at Banque Audi, who led Bank Audi to participate in this initiative, who were among the awardees. She also is a founding member of the National steering committee and an ambassador at the UN Global Compact.
It is the only platform existing in Lebanon and in the Arab World where businesses can be supported in being engaged in the fight for climate change and hence, support the government of Lebanon to achieve its emission reduction target of 15% that has been committed in 2015 at the COP21 in Paris.
LCA is currently providing a space for businesses to showcase and support climate action, through concrete initiatives and multi-stakeholder approaches and thus, contributing in a sustainable and profitable manner to a strong and effective response to climate change. Looking forward not only to being part of this great platform but also being engaged in the fight for climate change. Stay tuned!
